Seattle mariners logo history

The Seattle Mariners logo has undergone several changes since the team joined Major League Baseball in 1977. Their first logo featured a silhouette of the famous green whale swimmer from Puget Sound, over a blue and yellow compass background. In 1980, the logo was updated with a simpler, dark blue whale swimmer design that curved around the words “Mariners”.

This was an iconic logo that lasted until the early 1990s. In 1992, the Mariners introduced a new, more modern logo – a white seagull spreading its wings over a background of blue waves. This logo was designed to give the team a more aggressive and dynamic image.

Then in 2012, the logo was updated again with a slightly different seagull look and more streamlined silver-blue lettering. This is the current logo still used by the Mariners. The Mariners logo represents Seattle’s geographical location by the sea as well as the team’s meaning of being agile and strong like a seagull. Their logo changes over the decades show an attempt to look fresh and contemporary while maintaining a basic identity as a team from the port city.
